From all the alternative therapies available today, I was surprised to find one called “Yawnology”.
Yawning cleans the brain because it accelerates the flow of cerebrospinal fluid and of the lymph!
Lymph, a watery fluid, passes through the lymphatic system throughout the body. Lymph fights back infections, provides transportation for important nutrients and brings away the toxins that are released into the lymphatic system. The heart is the pump for our blood but the lymphatic system has no pump. The moving of the lymph is done through breathing and skeletal muscle contractions.
Dr. Jack Shields, lymphologist, conducted a study on this and placed cameras inside the bodies of different people to observe what it was that stimulated the cleansing of the lymph system. He noticed that deep diaphragm breathing is the most effective way to do this. This kind of breathing creates something like a vacuum that sucks the lymph through the bloodstream and increases the rate at which the body eliminates toxins. Deep diaphragm breathing combined with body movement, such as the flexing and stretching can accelerate the cleansing process by as much as 15 times the normal rate. (THAT IS FROM 125ML/HR TO 1,800 ML/HR).
The article concluded that it is not hard to see how yawning cleans the body or that a deep inspiration is the key! Read the whole article here.
