The study of intestinal flora has been plagued by a bias: namely, that the studies were done on an already “industrialized” population with eating habits that could hardly be called “natural” Now a research team has studied the African Hanza hunter-gatherers and has drawn important conclusions for what a health gut flora would be.

It has been shown over the past few years that a healthy intestinal flora prevents a major part of autoimmune diseases. Considering that 70% of immunity stem from the intestines, that is not surprising. Probiotics have rightfully gained importance as nutritional supplements. Most probiotics, however, are based on lactic bacteria — and many nutritionists have pointed out that maybe consuming milk the most natural thing to start with, unless it is mother’s milk.

After some extensive research on this, I have concluded that the better probiotics to take would be soil based microorganisms (SBOs). Even though these make up the smaller part of available probiotics, they are commercially available.
